Matera

Located at the eastern extremity of the region of Basilicata, which borders Puglia, Matera has become one of Italy’s most popular destinations. It is famous for its “Sassi,” two cliff-side zones of rock-cut dwellings which have been inhabited since Paleolithic times. This suggestive geological urban scape has served as the setting for many famous films such as Pasolini’s “The Gospel According to Matthew,” Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ,” and the recent James Bond movie “No Time to Die.” Buona visita!
