"The Music Lesson" ("Three Ages of Man") by Giorgione (Palazzo Pitti)

Painted by the great Venetian painter Giorgione in the early 16th century, the subject of the enigmatic painting known as both “The Music Lesson” and “The Three Ages of Man” has eluded scholars. The scene depicts three figures of differing ages against a dark background. A young man reads a music sheet as the man to his left points at it and the older man to his right looks out at the viewer. Whatever the subject may be, the beauty of the painting is beyond discussion. It is in the Pitti Palace in Florence, Italy. Buona visione!
