Painted by the Mannerist artist Rosso Fiorentino, this hauntingly beautiful work was executed for the Bishop of San Sepolcro, Leonardo Tornabuoni. Located in the MFA in Boston, the painting clearly demonstrates Rosso Fiorentino’s admiration for Michelangelo’s idealized nudes on the Sistine Chapel ceiling, but with a literal Mannerist twist. Buona visione!
