"Siena Cathedral Pulpit" by Nicola Pisano

Carved in 1265 (five years after his pulpit in Pisa Baptistry), Nicola Pisano’s “Siena Cathedral Pulpit” is much more Gothic in style than its Pisan precedent, reflecting the highly decorative architectural surroundings of Siena Cathedral. Yet, Pisano’s work is still full of innovation and invention as he strived to modernize medieval sculpture by introducing drama, movement, naturalism and emotion. Buona visione!
