Albrect Dürer’s “Self-portrait” was painted in early 1500, shortly before his 29th birthday. Located in the Alte Pinakothek in Munich, it is the most personal and iconic of the artist’s several self-portraits. Clearly resembling traditional representations of Christ in European art, the artist confronts the viewer directly and raises his right hand to his chest almost as if in the act of blessing. Buona visione!
