"Christ the Good Shepherd" Mosaic (Ravenna)

Located in the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia in Ravenna, Italy, the 5th-century CE mosaic depicting “Christ as the Good Shepherd” presents a beardless, classical-looking figure who resembles Apollo more than a typical medieval figure of Christ. He sits in a rocky landscape surrounded by six sheep, wearing imperial robes of royal purple and gold, and holding a long cross-shaped staff. Buona visione!
