Tommaso di Ser Giovanni, better known to the world as “Masaccio,” exploded onto Florence’s art scene at the beginning of the 15th Century and transformed the world of painting. His frescoes in the Brancacci Chapel heralded a new pictorial language based on naturalism, drama, and realistic space. Masaccio’s milestone fresco of the “Holy Trinity” was the first painting to ever apply the principles of single-point perspective.
