Typical of Milan, Mondeghili are meatballs usually made of beef, milk-soaked bread, Grana Padano cheese, nutmeg, and egg, then coated in breadcrumbs before being fried in butter. It is common to find them also prepared with sausage, salami, liver, mortadella and other types of pork. Mondeghili were introduced into Milan by the Spanish in the 16th century as a means to not let anything go to waste as most of the meat was left over from other dishes. Buon appetito!
