Designed by Nicola Salvi in 1750, the fountain takes its name from its surrounding piazza where three roads, or “tre vie” intersect. The theatrical marble representations of Oceanus and other sea gods upon a Travertine stone platform serve as a fitting source and backdrop to the fountain’s most important protagonist – water! Immortalized in films such as “Roman Holiday,” “Three Coins in a Fountain,” and “La Dolce Vita,” the Trevi Fountain is arguably the world’s most celebrated fountain.
Buon viaggio!
