Located in the Fontebranda district of Siena, the Sanctuary of St. Catherine of Siena is one of the city’s most important sites. Family home of the celebrated saint in the first half of the 14th century, the structure was subsequently enlarged after the canonization of the saint in the 15th century and then declaration as one of Italy’s patron saints in 1939. The Church of the Crucifix located within the sanctuary houses the crucifix from which the saint allegedly received the stigmata in 1375. Buona visita!
