"The School of Athens" by Raphael

Painted in 1508 by Raphael in the personal library of Pope Julius II (today known as the Raphael Stanza in the Vatican Museums), the “School of Athens” fresco is celebrated as a collective portrayal of many of the greatest minds of Antiquity. But there are also contemporary portraits in the painting, including Raphael himself on the far right. Other portraits include Bramante as Euclid with his compass in hand, perhaps Leonardo as Plato, and the later addition of Michelangelo as Heraclitus. Buona visione!
