"The Old Sacristy" by Filippo Brunelleschi
Generally considered the first Renaissance-style interior space ever built, the “Old Sacristy” is in San Lorenzo in Florence, Italy. Designed by the great Filippo Brunelleschi in 1421, the revolutionary space served as the preparation room for priests, as well as the funerary chapel of the patriarch of the Medici family – Giovanni Di Bicci. Its austere grey/white interior and rigorous geometric design philosophy make it extraordinarily modern looking, while the abundant Medici heraldic imagery is a constant reminder of its patronage. Buona visione!
