Located in the Casa Buonarroti Museum in Florence, Italy, the “Battle of the Lapiths and the Centaurs” is one of Michelangelo’s earliest known sculptures. He carved it in 1492 when he was only 17 years old for Lorenzo “il Magnifico” de’ Medici. The marble relief sculpture illustrates a mythological battle between men and centaurs and clearly demonstrates Michelangelo’s interest in classical mythology and the male nude form. Buona visione!
