"Rest on the flight into Egypt" by Paolo Veronese

Painted in 1566, during Paolo Veronese’s mature period. The “Rest on the Flight into Egypt” is loosely based on the Holy Family’s sudden departure for Egypt to escape the wrath of King Herod. Veronese’s signature bright colors and dynamic composition produce a moving image of the Holy Family at rest in the countryside. Mary nurses her young son, as St. Joseph looks on and angels playfully collect dates to offer to the weary family. Buona visione!
