"Eleonora of Toledo" by Bronzino
Painted in 1545 by the official Medici court painter, Angelo Bronzino, this magnificent portrait of Eleonora di Toledo, together with her second son Giovanni, is one of the painter’s greatest masterpieces. With her sumptuous dress and rich jewels, Eleonora is clearly depicted in a stately context against a striking and very expensive lapis lazuli blue background. Duchess Eleonora is portrayed as a loyal wife, attentive mother, and powerful ruler. Buona visione!
