"The Florios of Sicily: A Novel" by Stefania Auci
Based on a true story, “The Florios of Sicily” recounts the rise and fall of Sicily’s uncrowned kings – the notorious Florio family. After an earthquake devastates their hometown of Bagnara in 1799, the Florios are forced to relocate to Palermo, Sicily, and rebuild their lives from the bottom up. In spite of derision and complicated interpersonal matters, the Florios go on to found a trading empire of epic proportions, rising to the top as one of the wealthiest families in Italy. Stefania Auci brings the Florios’ rags-to-riches tale to life, offering both an expansive and intimate view of the Florios’ century of power.
