One of three similar Italian Renaissance paintings from the end of the 15th century, most likely by different artists, the “Ideal City Panel” located in the Gemäldedegalerie in Berlin is the only one of the three to include a seascape. It is attributed by some to the Sienese architect Francesco di Giorgio Martini, and, like the other two “Ideal City” panels, is void of human beings, most likely suggesting a type of visual architectural theory. The other two “Ideal City” panels are in the National Gallery in Urbino, Italy, and the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore, Maryland. Buona visione!
