Zuccotto

A typical Florentine semi-frozen dessert made with cake, alchermes liquor (which gives a vibrant red color), and gelato, Zuccotto was allegedly invented by the Renaissance architect Bernardo Buontalenti. While its name refers to the pumpkin shaped mold (“zucca”) in which it is chilled, its shape is believed to have been inspired by Brunelleschi’s dome on Florence Cathedral. Buon appetito!
