The Easter season in Italy brings with it lots of traditional Easter desserts. And to kick off Holy Week on Palm Sunday in the Liguria region, “Canestrelli della Domenica delle Palme” is on the table. These lightly leavened doughnut-like sweets are made with very little butter and sugar in keeping with the last days of Lent but are decorated with colored sprinkles in preparation for the celebration of Easter.
