Volterra

The beautiful walled mountain-top town of Volterra is in the province of Pisa and has been inhabited since at least the 8th century BCE. Remnants of an Etruscan gate and acropolis, an ancient Roman theater and amphitheater, a medieval cathedral and town hall, and a Renaissance fortress built by the city’s Medici conquerors are but some of the sites that are evidence of the city’s long history. And if all of this is not enough, Volterra is surrounded by some of the most beautiful countryside in all of Italy. Buona visita!
