The Villa Borghese Gardens is the 3rd largest public park in Rome. They were created for Pope Paul V Borghese beginning in 1605 as the seat of his “villa suburbana.” While part of the gardens is still in the Italian style, a majority was remade in the 19th century in the English style. The Villa Borghese Gardens also contain numerous historic buildings including the Borghese Gallery, the Villa Giulia (National Etruscan Museum), the Villa Medici (French Academy in Rome), the National Gallery of Modern Art and the British School at Rome. Today you will find many Romans enjoying the great park as they walk their dogs, jog, cycle or rollerblade through its tree covered roads. Buona visita!
