The Uffizi Gallery is home to the world’s most important collection of medieval and Renaissance Italian painting, and is the most visited museum in Florence, Italy. It was constructed between 1560 and 1565 as the central office building (“uffizio” in 16th century Italian) of the duchy-soon-to-be-grand-duchy of Tuscany on designs by Giorgio Vasari. Today it houses painting masterpieces by artists such as Giotto, Piero della Francesca, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael, Titian, and Caravaggio. The Uffizi is also home to one of the world’s most famous paintings, “The Birth of Venus” by Botticelli. Buona visita!
