Torcello

For more than a millennium, the charming Venetian island of Torcello, located at the northern end of the lagoon, was home to the bishop of Venice, whose seat was the 7th-century cathedral of Santa Maria dell’Assunta. The church still maintains some of its original beautiful 11th and 12th- century mosaic decoration, and its bell tower offers views of the nearby island of Burano. Torcello is also home to the “Ponte del Diavolo”, a 15th-century, single-arched bridge with no side parapets. Buona visita!
