The Sistine Chapel

Built between 1473 and 1481 for Pope Sixtus IV – from whom the chapel takes its name – the Sistine Chapel is one of the greatest decorative complexes ever produced. Whether it’s the late 15th-century frescoes by artists such as Botticelli, Perugino, Ghirlandaio, and Signorelli; Michelangelo’s magnificent ceiling or breathtaking “Last Judgment;” or the Raphael-designed tapestries which hung in the chapel for special occasions, the Sistine Chapel packs an artistic punch like few other places on earth! Buona visita!
