Tarquinia

Located in the province of Viterbo in the central Italian region of Lazio, Tarquinia was one of the most ancient and important Etruscan cities and home to some of Italy’s best preserved Etruscan necropoleis, or “cities of the dead.” Many of the tombs are painted with incredibly well-preserved scenes of dances, banquets, sporting events, mythical scenes and images of demons accompanying the dead on their voyage to the netherworld.  Not surprisingly, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Buona visita!
