Piazzale Michelangelo, Florence

The Piazzale Michelangelo is a large piazza, or square, overlooking the city of Florence, Italy. It is located on the southeastern side of the city and offers breathtaking views of the Renaissance city. Designed in 1869 by the architect Giuseppe Poggi, the piazza is dedicated to Florence’s greatest artist – Michelangelo. In fact, there is a full-size bronze copy of Michelangelo’s “David” in the center of the piazza surrounded by bronze copies of Michelangelo’s four “Times of the Day” statues. Tourists and Florentines alike flock to the Piazzale Michelangelo in the evening to enjoy bedazzling sunsets. Buona visita!
