Palatine Hill

One of the seven hills of Rome, the Palatine Hill is where, according to legend, the cave where the she-wolf suckled Romulus and Remus was located. It is also the place where Romulus decided to found his great city and where he slew his brother. Because of its legendary importance, the Palatine Hill became the “Beverly Hills” of Imperial Rome, where emperors tried to outdo each other in constructing sumptuous residences known as “palatii,” from which we get the word “palazzo.” Today the Palatine Hill is an open-air museum where you can get a sense of the grandeur of ancient Rome. Buona visita!
