Ospedale degli Innocenti (Hospital of the Innocents), Florence

Located in Piazza Santissima Annuziata in Florence, Italy, the Hospital of the Innocents was a 15th century orphanage sponsored by the Silk Guild of Florence. The guild chose one of its own members, the revolutionary architect Filippo Brunelleschi to design it. The Hospital was Brunelleschi’s first major architectural project, and his revival of classical architectural established his new early Renaissance style as the foundation for Italian architecture for centuries. Buona visita!
