Located about 27 mi/44 km northeast of Bologna in the Italian region of Emilia-Romagna, Ferrara is one of Italy’s most beautiful and historic cities. Ferrara is home to a magnificent castle, the “Este Castle,” from which the Este family ruled over the city during the Renaissance. It is also home to a beautiful Romanesque cathedral and several Renaissance palaces such as the “Schifanoia,” with its beautifully frescoed “Salone dei Mesi” and the Palazzo dei Diamanti, with its fancifully rusticated façade. Buona visita!
