Contarini del Bovolo Palace, Venice

Located on the exterior of the Contarini del Bovolo Palace in Venice, Italy, the Bovolo Staircase is a multi-arch spiral staircase built in 1499.  Its distinctive spiraling shape gives it its name, as “bovolo” is Venetian dialect for “snail.” Spanning six floors of the palace over 28m (92ft.), the beautiful staircase has eighty steps. Its arches, columns and balustrade are made of white stone and the remaining wall surfaces are made of red brick. Buona visita!
