Located in the northern part of the region of Umbria, the city of Città di Castello was part of the Papal States. The city is constructed largely in brick, and its main sites are the medieval town hall and communal tower, along with a pinacoteca, or “painting museum,” which houses one of Raphael’s earliest known works – the “Banner of the Holy Trinity.” In fact, Raphael produced several of his most important early works for Città di Castello. Buona visita!
