"The Resurrection Pulpit" by Donatello

Two of his last works, Donatello’s beautiful bronze pulpits in the Basilica of San Lorenzo in Florence, Italy, were found in his studio upon his death in 1466. The north pulpit is called the “Resurrection Pulpit” because in addition to “Christ in Limbo,” the “Ascension,” the “Women at the Tomb,” the “Miracle of Pentecost,” and the “Martyrdom of St. Lawrence,” one of the reliefs also depicts the “Resurrection.” While the reliefs probably involved extensive intervention by Donatello’s workshop, they are some of the most expressive in the history of art. Buon visione!
