"The Raising of the Son of Theophilus", Masaccio
Located in the Brancacci Chapel in the Church of Santa Maria del Carmine in Florence, Italy, the “Raising of the Son of Theophilus” was begun by Masaccio in the 1420s and completed by Filippino Lippi some 60 years later. The scene depicts a miracle described in the “Acts of Peter,” where he raises a young man from the dead who has been dead for 14 years!  Masaccio includes his self-portrait in the far right-hand side of the painting, as well as portraits of Masolino (who began the project with him), Leon Battista Alberti, and Filippo Brunelleschi. Buona visione!
