Located on the north wall of the Sistine Chapel, “The Delivery of the Keys” was painted by Pietro Perugino in 1481. It is part of a series of frescoes illustrating the life of Christ by various artists, including Botticelli, Ghirlandaio, and Cosimo Rosselli. Perugino sets the scene of Christ giving St. Peter the keys of heaven and earth in front of a rigidly defined octagonal temple that almost looks like it’s painted from a wooden model. Buona visione!
