"The Adoration of the Christ Child", Sandro Botticelli, Museum of Fine Art, Houston

Located in the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, TX, this elegant painting by Botticelli was painted late in the artist’s career. The curved forms of Mary and Joseph complement the round shape (“tondo”) of the painting.  Mary kneels in adoration of the Christ Child, as Joseph sleeps to the left. In the lower right, two shepherds approach with a symbolic sacrificial lamb and in the background on the left, we see the Holy family fleeing to Egypt. Buona visione!
