Paolo Veronese’s “Supper at Emmaus” was painted in 1559 and is currently located in the Louvre Museum in Paris, France. It depicts the biblical story of Christ’s appearance to two of his apostles after his death and resurrection in the town of Emmaus. Veronese sets the scene in a classical palace and, in addition to the protagonists, includes over a dozen members of an aristocratic Venetian family in contemporary 16th-century dress, making the painting look more secular than religious.
