"Self-Portrait" by Tintoretto

Painted when the artist was just 27 years-old, this dramatic self-portrait of the Venetian painter Jacopo Robusti, better known as “Tintoretto,” heralded the arrival of a new talent on the Venetian art scene. The self-portrait is located in the Philadelphia Museum of Art and employs the typical Venetian technique of having the subject’s head emerge from a dark background. Buona visione!
