"Saint Sebastian" by Botticelli

Painted for the church of Santa Maria Maggiore in Florence, Italy, this was Botticelli’s first painting of a large-scale nude. Instead of showing the attempted martyrdom, Botticelli instead depicts the saint bound to a tree, staring directly at the viewer, with his graceful body already pierced by six arrows. Buona visione!
