Begun in 1185 under the reign of the Norman King William II, Palermo Cathedral is an eclectic of varying architectural styles as it was added on to for centuries. It is characterized by beautiful interlacing arcades, crenulation, and polychrome masonry. Perhaps its most striking feature is the portico on the south side that contains the portal that now serves as the main entrance to the church. The carving of the portal was executed by Antonio Gambara in 1426 for the coronation of Alfonso of Aragon in the Gothic-Catalan style. Buona visione!
