"Orcagna Tabernacle"

Signed and dated (1359) by its artist, Andrea Orcagna, the elaborate Orcagna Tabernacle is a massive structure enshrining Bernardo Daddi’s miraculous painting of the “Madonna, Child and Angels.” It is located in the church of Orsanmichele in Florence, Italy, and is made of marble decorated with inlaid gold, enamel and mosaic tesserae. Various marble reliefs illustrate scenes from the life of the Virgin Mary, which culminate with the “Dormition and Assumption of the Virgin Mary” on the backside. Buona visione!
