The Cathedral of Monreale is one of the world’s most important examples of Norman architecture. Construction on the church began in 1174 under William II of Sicily and it is dedicated, like most cathedrals, to the Virgin Mary. The massive church measures 102m (335ft.) in length and 40m (131ft.) in width, and its interior is decorated with one of the world’s largest mosaics, which date back to the 12th and 13th centuries. Buona visione!
