First built in 1144, the Cathedral of Lecce was entirely rebuilt in the 17th century. It is dedicated to St. Orontius, the patron saint of the city. The northern entrance is a masterpiece of Baroque architecture, while the western entrance is more classical and linear. The cathedral has a Latin cross plan with interior columns and pilasters made of the elegant local Lecce stone. Surrounding the church are a series of 12 side chapels, each containing its own altar decorated with beautiful paintings. Buona visita!
