Painted in 1480 in the refectory of the convent of the Ognissanti Church in Florence, Italy, Domenico Ghirlandaio’s “Last Supper” is a milestone interpretation of the subject. While heavily influenced by Del Castagno’s celebrated earlier version, Ghirlandaio adds a greater degree of expression to each of the apostles. Not surprisingly, it would, in turn, influence Leonardo da Vinci’s version of the subject in Milan 15 years later. Buona visione!
