“Lamentation” by Rogier Van Der Weyden
The “Lamentation” was painted in oil on wood panel by Rogier van der Weyden around 1460 and is currently located in the Uffizi Galleries in Florence, Italy. It was most likely painted for the Medici family and depicts the dead body of Christ who is surrounded by five biblical figures who dramatically lament his death. These figures include the Virgin Mary, St. John the Beloved, Joseph of Arimathea, Nicodemus, and Mary Magdalene. Buona visione!
