“Head of a Mourning Woman” was painted by the Ferrarese artist Ercole de’ Roberti in the late 15th century and is in the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore, MD. The isolated raw emotion of the image can be explained by the fact that the painting is based on a figure in a now lost well-known “Crucifixion” fresco by the same artist. Buona visione!
