Commissioned by the Medici in the 1470s, the “David” by Andrea del Verrocchio was eventually displayed in Palazzo Vecchio (or city hall) in Florence, Italy. Today, it is in the Bargello Museum. According to Vasari, a teenage Leonardo da Vinci served as the model for the statue. Recent scholarship has suggested that the head of Goliath may have been originally placed to the right of the figure’s left leg but was later moved to the more traditional place between the legs. Buona visione!
