While the authorship of this painting is not certain, this oil on canvas reproduction of Leonardo da Vinci’s “Last Supper” is one of the most important visual documents of Leonardo’s now severely deteriorated masterpiece. Even though it is missing the upper third section of the original, the copy shows details that are no longer visible, such as Jesus’ feet or the overturned saltcellar by Judas’ hand. The painting, which is nearly to scale, was sent to England in 1817 and purchased by the Royal Academy in London (where it can be seen today) in 1821. Buona visione!
