Painted around 1570 and located in the chapter hall of the Scuola Grande di San Rocco in Venice, Italy, the “Adoration of the Shepherds” by Tintoretto is a moving depiction of Christmas night. Set in a ruined stable, the Holy Family occupies the upper floor as the shepherds arrive to the scene in the lower right. The entire scene is washed in a warm, diffused golden light. Buona visione!
