Born in the year of Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee – 1887 – George Swinford was still living in the same small Cotswold village of Filkins one hundred years later. One of 12 children, George Swinford’s life was often harsh and painful, working eleven hours a day at the age of 13. With his father, he cycled to Wales in search of work during the Great Depression.
