"The Jubilee Boy: The life and recollections of George Swinford of Filkins" by Judith Fay & Richard Martin

Born in the year of Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee – 1887 – George Swinford was still living in the same small Cotswold village of Filkins one hundred years later. One of 12 children, George Swinford’s life was often harsh and painful, working eleven hours a day at the age of 13. With his father, he cycled to Wales in search of work during the Great Depression. He describes his life, the village, and its inhabitants with wit and humor. He also provides a description of the museum he created in Filkins, containing items gathered through his life.
