Palm Beach Jewelry, Art & Antique Show “Renaissance Pleasure Palaces: The Art of Delectation” by Rocky Ruggiero, Ph.D.

Renaissance Italians revived the ancient Roman tradition of the suburban villa as a haven from the pressures and anxieties of urban life, but also as a hub for debauchery and hedonism. This lecture will explore the art, architecture and history of perhaps the three most beautiful and well-preserved Renaissance villas – the Villa Farnesina and Villa Borghese in Rome and the Palazzo Te in the northern Italian city of Mantua. The extraordinary art which has adorned these structures for the past five centuries serves as testimony to the often lascivious revelry that ensued within them.
